Candi Gedong Songo IV stands on the southern slope of Mount Ungaran, slightly above the hot spring. The main sanctuary is the only surviving temple of nine closely situated structures.

Candi Gedong Songo III dates from the 8th century. The ensemble of monuments consists of two multi-tiered Shiva shrines and a sanctuary. The temples are located on Mount Ungaran and were possibly used for meditation and contemplation.
