The name chain bridge in Aarau, Switzerland, was used from 1850 onwards for a crossing over the Aare built as a chain bridge. After this bridge was replaced by a concrete bridge built in 1948/49, the name chain bridge continued to be used.
1850 construction of the chain bridge over the Aare and def. Name “Chain Bridge” by Samuel Geissberger.
