Going eastbound from Legion Lake, this trail is a fun, mostly down-slope, ride. Use caution: a nearly invisible culvert was washed out with a big hole in road. Terrain changes quickly and unexpectedly. Wider tires with traction a must.

Barnes Canyon Trail is a 6 mile out-and-back trail situated in the heart of Custer State Park. Climbing gently, the trail is not steep and offers stunning views of the state park and its abundant wildlife. At the end of the trail, you can connect to Calkins Draw Trail and eventually French Creek.
