Make sure to look behind you as you approach Piute Pass! A small pond rests below you, and Mt George Davis cheers you on from the south. Even well into October, before the first major snowfall of winter and after summer has melted out last years snow, large snowfields may still exist on the final approach to the pass. Always remember the cardinal rule of High Sierra traverses: Always bring your microspikes! (… or crampons and ice axe.)
