The reserve is located approximately 2 km west of the railway station in Szymiszów. The aim of nature protection in the reserve is to preserve the lowland beech forest and subcontinental oak-hornbeam forest with rare and protected undergrowth species.

Three forest associations have been distinguished here, covering a similar area: subcontinental oak-hornbeam forest, acidic lowland beech forest and fertile lowland beech forest. In the reserve, 113 species of vascular plants have been found, including several taxa under legal protection: the great-flowered and red carderum, the wood jackwort, the white lacewing, the lace lily, the melisaceae honeydew, and the common columbine. Rare species found in the region include: round-leafed bedstraw, white-flowered hellebore, common hellebore, broad-leafed fern, blackberry, and common hepatica. The most interesting mammal found here is the dormouse
