The St. Matthew's Church is the parish church of the Antwerp town of Hulshout, located on the Grote Baan.
Although the parish is very old, little is known about its earliest history. At the beginning of the 16th century there was a church with a tower, the nave of which was in very poor condition and was covered by a straw roof. In 1524 a new nave was built, while retaining the original tower and choir. This church was built mainly of iron sandstone. The church stood north of the parsonage. This church was demolished at the beginning of the 20th century.
In the meantime, a new church was built southwest of the parsonage, designed by Pieter Jozef Taeymans, in neo-Gothic style. The pulpit and communion rails of the old church were sold to the Museum of Antiquities, the later Museum Vleeshuis.
