From the beach you have a good view of the small town of Nykøbing on the island of Mors. The city with around 9,000 inhabitants is located at the entrance to Sallingsund in the Limfjord.
The origin of the place name "Nykøbing" goes back to the 13th century. In contrast to older cities like Ribe or Viborg, Nykøbing joined the circle of market places (købstad). The "Mors" appendix is used to distinguish two other Danish cities of the same name, Nykøbing Falster and Nykøbing Sjælland. In written form, the name of the city is often given with "Nykøbing M".
