Traismauer Castle is a historical highlight and a wonderful destination for a cycling tour. It is centrally located in Traismauer and easily accessible by bike. Bicycle parking is available on-site. The area around Traismauer also offers other scenic routes.

The castle has a rich history dating back to Roman times, as the area was home to an important Roman settlement called Augustiana. It stands on the site of a former Roman fort (Augustiana), which served as part of the Roman border defenses. Parts of the Roman fortifications are still incorporated into the present-day castle complex. Over the centuries, the castle has served as a fortress, residence, and administrative center. In the Middle Ages, the complex was expanded and used as a castle to control the important trade route along the Danube.

The two Traisental mountain bike trails, the "Venusberg Runde" and the "Venusberg-Oschneida Runde," start here. There's an information board for them.
The castle itself has Roman origins and is quite impressive.

Traismauer Castle has an eventful history: it was once the Roman cavalry fort of Augustia – the stables were located in the present-day arcades. The civilian settlement stretched east of the camp. Witnesses to this period include two Roman milestones in the castle courtyard, as well as a Celtic and several Roman gravestones.

In 860, Traismauer Castle became the property of the Archbishopric of Salzburg for approximately 1,000 years. The coat of arms of Bishop Harrach in the castle courtyard also dates from this period.

In the Middle Ages, Traismauer Castle was important as the setting for the Nibelungenlied: Kriemhild and her entourage spent four nights at Traismauer Castle before her meeting with the Hun King Etzel.
