The Gateway Loop Trail offers real desert mountain views while only having to journey just a few minutes from town. The trail is littered with cacti, and there are excellent overlooks of the surrounding mountain ranges northeast of Phoenix.

This short loop trail is popular with hikers, bikers, and runners so it can get very busy especially on weekends. If you start early though it's not so crowded. You can ride this as a loop on its own or link up some of the other trails in the Preserve for a longer ride.

You can see numerous cacti and flowers throughout the trail, showcasing the beauty of this area. The trail gradually inclines throughout and a few rocky sections, but the effort is rewarded with stunning views along the way.
