The Old Town Market Square in Stargard is the historical heart of the city and one of the most important clusters of valuable monuments in West Pomerania, with a history dating back to the mid-13th century. This square is the central point of Stargard's old town, combining a rich Hanseatic past with modern urban space development plans.

The market square is currently the largest concentration of valuable monuments in the city, including: St. Mary's Collegiate Church and the eastern frontage formed by the City Hall, the Guard House and two neo-baroque tenement houses. After World War II, the Market Square (like much of the city) lost its original appearance. The most beautiful tenement houses, e.g. Loewen Aphoteke from 1487 or the tenement house modeled on the façade of the town hall, were replaced with buildings made of prefabricated panels.
