The municipal slaughterhouse was probably the most modern of its kind in Pomerania when it was opened on October 27, 1896. At the time, the complex cost the city 423,000 marks and consisted of two residential buildings facing the street for administration and official housing for civil servants. The complex included two residential buildings for administration and officials, a slaughter hall, animal housing, a cold store, a laboratory, and sewage treatment facilities. The designer was Heinrich Denekeen, who was responsible for the design of the water tower and the restoration of St. Mary's Church.
