The original old town of Bad Waldsee was surrounded by a protective wall as early as 1283. Around 1400, a wall was also built around the Wurzach suburb. The Wurzach Gate with its Gothic tower is part of this and still characterizes the townscape today.

"The Wurzach Gate is part of the old city wall that served to protect the city in the Middle Ages. The people of Waldsee, especially the older ones among them, still know a name for the tower: the "Hafadeckl". Today the Gothic tower is part of the skyline of the city of Bad Waldsee.
