The Westeindse Weel is a historic place in Zeeland. The dike surrounding the area once functioned as a sea wall. Things went wrong on November 5, 1530, during the famous St. Felix Flood.
The dike broke through where a creek used to be. The water flowed in with great force and a deep gully was created: a pool. The new dike was laid in an arc around the deep hole. The Westeindse Weel is a combination of a weel and a creek remnant.
