This monument in Seville pays tribute to the famous sailor Christopher COLUMBUS (born around 1451, died 1506). He undertook his great voyages of discovery, which make him famous to this day - from mainland Europe across the Atlantic to the west and looking for the sea route to India - on behalf of the Spanish crown, but he was born in what was then the Republic of Genoa.
