Aperlai is a small-scale Lycian port city. The first evidence for its existence are small silver coins printed in the 5th century BC bearing the monograms of APR or PRL in the Lycian language. At the time of the Roman empire, Aperlai was the head of a federation including the nearby Kaleköy (Simena), Apollonia and Isinda. These four cities were part of the Lycian Union, but only had one vote together.
