Built in 1895, this house is one of the best examples of this early phase of Wright's work. Moore, who was a neighbor of Wright, commissioned him to build this expensive English Tudor-style house. Wright agreed because of his growing family and his recent step into independence. He delivered as requested: high dormers, half-timbering on the upper floor, medieval fireplaces, decorative glass panels and Gothic arches on the ground floor. At Christmas 1922 the house burned down. Moore commissioned Wright to rebuild, which almost ruined him financially.
