In 2023, six "Moorwächter" (moor guards), wooden sculptures by Thomas Rees, were set up around the Hinterzarten Moor. At the entrance to the moor stands "Der Knabe im Moor" (The Boy in the Moor), based on a modern adaptation of a ballad by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.
