Owen Sound is the county seat of Gray County in Southwestern Ontario. The settlement of 'Sydenham' was founded in 1840/41; 10 years later the city was renamed Owen Sound.
Over the years, Owen Sound became an important port, best known for its taverns and brothels. Because of its reputation, the city was given names such as “Chicago of the North” and “Little Liverpool.”
