To the north of St. George's Church is the cobbled market square. One of the striking features here is the bread and dance house, which served as a sales building for cloth merchants during the Whitsun mass and as a banquet hall. Directly opposite is the Gasthaus der Sonne, which was built in 1350 and has been used as a prince's inn since 1405. Famous people have stayed here in the past, including various emperors, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the American astronauts of the Apollo moon program, who prepared for their mission here in the Ries.

The "Steinhaus zu Nördlingen" directly next door has been the town hall for over 600 years and is therefore one of the oldest town halls in Germany. Like St. George's Church and other town houses, it was built from the porous suevite stone of the Nördlinger Ries. In 1618, a representative staircase made of suevite stone was added to the town hall.
