Wat Arun, known as the Temple of Dawn, is one of Bangkok's most striking landmarks and is picturesquely located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. Named after Aruna, the Indian god of dawn, the temple is particularly impressive for its striking central pagoda (prang), which is about 70 meters high. This structure is intricately decorated with colored porcelain pieces and shells that create an impressive play of light at sunrise and sunset.

Wat Arun has a long history that dates back to the Ayutthaya period. Originally, the temple was part of a larger monastic complex that was revitalized during the reign of King Taksin after the destruction of Ayutthaya. King Rama II began the remodeling and expansion of the main pagoda, which was completed under King Rama III.

Today, Wat Arun is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a major religious center. Visitors can climb the steep steps of the Prang and enjoy breathtaking views of the river and Bangkok's skyline. The complex also includes smaller temples and pavilions decorated with elaborate murals and statues depicting scenes from Buddhist mythology.
