Hilbolts Karkhoff is popularly called a small bush in the Vredener Klosterhook. Because there were buried in the 17th century, the Vreden who fell victim to the plague.

According to legend, an unknown king's son was buried nearby here around 1119. He is said to have died of the plague while visiting his noble relatives in the women's monastery in Vreden. Away from the other plague victims, he was buried in the heathland area of Engschters Stegge. On stormy nights you can still hear his wistful wailing!!
