Since the town of Neustadt am Rennsteig was divided between the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen until 1923, there were also two churches.
The Michaeliskirche is the Meiningen church; the Schwarzburg church was unfortunately demolished in 2016.
The Michaelskirche is a choir tower church. The modern windows in the choir area, which depict the Archangel Michael, are particularly beautiful.
We found the church open.

This church in Neustadt am Rennsteig is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?" He is often depicted in paintings or as a statue with a flaming sword. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day is September 29th.
