    Rain catcher from Eberhardt Bosslet

The twelve-meter-high sculpture that artist Eberhard Bosslet erected in 2001 on the headland at the marina in Oberwinter becomes a “public shower” when it rains.

    To the work

    EBERHARD BOSSLET | RAINCATCHER, 2001

The technoid-looking tower, which the Speyer-born artist built on the headland of Oberwinter in 2001, consists of a geometric wood and steel construction that can be seen from all sides. As an eye-catcher, it dominates the surrounding landscape.

Like a point de vue in baroque garden architecture, Bosslet's “rain catcher” attracts attention from all sides: from the street as well as from the far distance on the other bank of the river. This creates perspectives like in a landscape painting.

A special feature of the tower is its construction: the structure of the sculpture comes from a formwork system used in concrete building construction. In conjunction with an attached steel funnel, the tower becomes a “rain catcher” for Remagen.

The funnel's downpipe is located in the center of the tower structure. It ends at a height of three meters and, as Bosslet says, becomes a “public shower” when it rains.
    The artist

Eberhard Bosslet was born in Speyer in 1953. He lives and works in Berlin and Dresden. Together with Otmar Sattel, Werner Klotz and others, he was a member of the artist group “Material and Effect” from 1981 onwards.

    Remagen sculpture bank

On the occasion of the 2000th anniversary of the city of Remagen, the idea for a permanent art project along the banks of the Rhine was developed in cooperation with the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck. A sculpture bank with 15 works by renowned artists was created from 2001 to the present on 14 kilometers of the Rhine between Remagen-Rolandswerth and Remagen-Kripp.

We also offer approximately 2-hour guided bike tours for groups of up to 6 people, during which you will be introduced to the individual sculptures in a knowledgeable and entertaining manner.
