In the medieval castle Arbon with its defense tower, the visitor will find the largest local and regional historical museum in the canton of Thurgau. The modern designed permanent exhibition takes him on an exciting journey through 5500 years of exciting settlement history on Lake Constance. The late Roman fort dates from the year 250 AD. Between 1510 and 1518 Bishop Hugo von Hohenlandenberg expanded this complex as it is still visible today.

From the year 250 AD, the fortified late Roman fort Arbor Felix ("the happy tree"), which the Romans had to leave again at the time of the migration of peoples around 400 AD. Later, Arbon Castle became episcopally permanent property. Bishop Hugo von Hohenlandenberg expanded the annex 1510 - 1518 in the form presented today. After comprehensive interior and exterior restoration, the historic museum in Schloss Arbon with its 33-meter-high, distinctive tower has been in existence for over 30 years. Arbon Castle is today a regionally important cultural meeting center. An adult education institution and the "Economy to Castle", available for rent, are also at home in the castle today. Weddings and other celebrations are often held in the historic walls. The authentic Landenbergsaal (named after its builder, Hugo von Hohenlandenberg) offers the dignified framework to it. Arbon Castle has various venues where other events can be held, such as parties, lectures, concerts and receptions.

        Arbon Castle

The fortified late Roman fort Arbor Felix (“the happy tree”) dates from 250 AD, which the Romans had to leave again around 400 AD at the time of the migration of the peoples. Later the castle became an episcopal property. Episcopal administrators, later senior bailiffs, lived in the castle for over a thousand years. Bishop Hugo von Hohenlandenberg extended the complex 1510 - 1518 in the form as it is presented today. The castle became privately owned around 1800 and has been owned by the city of Arbon since 1945. After extensive interior and exterior restoration, the historical museum has been in the castle with its 33 meter high, striking tower for over 30 years. An institution for adult education and the cozy "business to the castle" are also at home in the castle today. Weddings and other celebrations are often held in the historic walls. The stylish Landenberg Hall (named after its builder, Hugo von Hohenlandenberg) offers the dignified setting. Arbon Castle is now a regionally important cultural meeting center.
