Candi Gedong Songo I is one of nine temple complexes on Mount Ungaran dating from around 730–830. The original name of the site is unknown. The designations I through IX were assigned by archaeologists; this site is occasionally referred to informally as Candi Ratna. The temple is situated at an altitude of 1,265 m and faces west.
