The decision to build the airport was made in 1937 and was related to the planned aggression of the Nazis against Poland[1]. Part of the lands belonging to Count Hans Graf Strachwitz and Erna Gräfin Strachwitz from Izbick were used for construction[2]. The construction was carried out by Luftwaffe soldiers from Brandenburg. The first planes appeared here in 1938 (there were three Ju 52 transports). Initially, the area was a primitive landing site, but the base was expanded throughout the war until its end. The existing railway line and the nearby station in Kamień Śląski were used for construction. Three large hangars and one smaller hangar were built at the airport. Two intended for aircraft and the third for renovation. Nearby, there were rooms for the airport staff, headquarters, a sick bay, a food warehouse, a shooting range for airplanes, social and lecture rooms, a transformer with a power line and an emergency generator in the event of a power outage. There is a guardhouse and a detention center at the main entrance to the airport. The technical facilities included workshops, garages, a carpentry shop, boiler rooms, three large underground water tanks, a fire station and an observation tower. Residential barracks, a kitchen and an officers' mess were built in front of Izbick. The airport's technical facilities included workshops, garages, a carpentry shop, boiler rooms, three large underground water tanks and four aircraft hangars, a fire station and an observation tower. Barracks for prisoners of war were also prepared, where, after the outbreak of the war, the English and Russians were later held[3] (from 1941). They took part in the expansion of the airport carried out until the end of 1944. The entire facility was sewered.
