The small church is located in Via xx Settembre, on the left when coming from the sea. Located between two residential buildings, it is a small sanctuary affectionately called "Gexetta du Previn" (little priest's church) by the residents of Carloforte, in honor of the young priest Don Nicolò Segni, who followed them and comforted them while they were there sentenced to slavery, brought to Tunis by the Barbareschi. The history of this Madonna, to whom the church is dedicated, is full of charm. On November 15, 1800, the young slave Nicola Moretto is said to have found a figurehead between two trees, a lemon and a date, in Nabel near Tunis, and this vision was like an omen for him. He jealously hid her and then entrusted her to the “Previn,” with the intention of returning her to his homeland as soon as she was free. It was like this. Slavery ended in 1803, also thanks to the intervention of some rulers, including Napoleon and the then Pope, who intervened with the Bey of Tunis to redeem the community. After returning home, it was decided to dedicate an oratory to the liberating Madonna, the construction of which began on October 15, 1807 and, after several interruptions, was completed in 1815. Neapolitan school from around 1850. It has a panel keyboard with 45 keys in 4 octaves , a pedalboard with 8 pedals and vertical “registers”. It is the oldest organ in the city and is supported by a wooden balustrade accessible via a spiral staircase. Since September 1988, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of Carloforte, the remains of an unknown slave have been transferred from Tunis and rest on the right entrance wall. November 15th is a solemn holiday for the community every year; The statue of the Madonna is carried in procession to commemorate the era of slavery and liberation.

The Chiesa Madonna delle Schiav in Carloforte, nestled on Via XX Settembre, is a small sanctuary steeped in history and significance. 🕍 Lovingly referred to as "Gexetta du Previn" by locals, it holds a special place in the hearts of the community. 💖 The church's origins are intertwined with the poignant tale of Nicola Moretto, a former slave who discovered a figurehead near Tunis, symbolizing hope and liberation. 🌟 Completed in 1815, this Neapolitan-style church houses the city's oldest organ, a testament to its enduring legacy. 🎶 Every November 15th, the community gathers to honor the memory of those who endured slavery and celebrate their liberation, making it a solemn yet joyous occasion. 🌺✨

In the 17th century, merchants and craftsmen from Milan settled outside the Porta San Giorgio as neighbors of the Genoese settlement. After the first church was built in 1616 and a hospital in 1636, the two Milanese brotherhoods active in Palermo decided to build a new church, which was completed in 1648. It was planned in accordance with the counter-reformation principles of the Council of Trent, according to which the pulpit was to be placed in the acoustic center of the church as a place for preaching, and lavish stucco and frescoes were to represent the heavenly glory. The church is under the patronage of the Milanese reform bishop Charles Borromeo.
