Near Bad Schandau, the Kirnitzsch River, which flows from the Lusatian Mountains and through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, joins the Elbe.
Bad Schandau lies on the right bank of the Elbe, directly adjacent to the Saxon Switzerland National Park in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The Elbe Cycle Path runs along both sides of the river.
