Towards Lio Grando is Fort Treporti, better known locally as Fort Vecchio. Built on the remains of a small French fort, it was erected by the Austrians in the second half of the 19th century (1845-1851) to monitor the lagoon area and the mouth of the Punta Sabbioni harbor. Located quite a distance from Venice, it was equipped with adequate anti-landing protection directly on the seafront, but also had passive defensive artillery facing the Venetian lagoon.

The fortress was built by the Austrians in the second half of the 19th century (between 1845 and 1851) on the remains of an existing French fortress to control the lagoon area and the entrance to the harbor of Punta Sabbioni.
