Seawall Campground

Seawall Campground offers a variety of sites, including walk-in tent-only campsites, drive-up sites suitable for tents, campers, and motor homes (up to 35 feet), and group tent sites. All campsites are reservable for up to two months in advance through Recreation.gov. There are no first-come, first-served sites available, and reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season.

While Seawall Campground provides essential amenities like flush toilets and running water, there are no showers or laundry facilities directly on-site. However, private vendors offering pay showers and camping supply stores are conveniently located less than a mile away from the campground.

Acadia National Park is generally pet-friendly, and pets are permitted in Seawall Campground. However, they must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet at all times and should not be left unattended at campsites. Always clean up after your pet to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.

Seawall Campground is often referred to as being on the 'quiet side' of Mount Desert Island, offering a more secluded and peaceful experience compared to other parts of Acadia, including the more bustling areas near Bar Harbor where Blackwoods Campground is located. Seawall Campground operates seasonally, typically from late May through early to mid-October. The campground is closed during the winter months, and facilities are not accessible. Visitors looking for winter access to Acadia National Park should be aware that many roads and facilities are closed or have limited services during that time.

Seawall Campground is located approximately four miles south of Southwest Harbor, a charming village that offers a variety of amenities. You can find grocery stores, restaurants, and other local shops in Southwest Harbor, providing convenient access to supplies and dining options during your stay.

Beyond exploring the tidal pools and the natural seawall across the road, families can enjoy nearby quiet hiking trails suitable for various ages. Echo Lake is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, and paddling. The Bass Harbor Head Light Station is also a short drive away and offers scenic views. The free Island Explorer Shuttle Bus, with a stop at the campground, provides easy access to other family-friendly attractions throughout Acadia National Park.

Due to its remote location on the 'quiet side' of Mount Desert Island, cell service can be limited or unreliable at Seawall Campground. There is no public Wi-Fi available. This encourages visitors to disconnect and fully immerse themselves in the natural environment of Acadia National Park.

The campground itself is situated at a relatively low elevation of approximately 10 meters, offering a mostly flat, wooded setting. While the immediate area is gentle, Acadia National Park offers a diverse range of terrain.
