The 720m high Geiselstein is magnetic. The compass needle can be strongly deflected near it. To do this, hold a compass to the rock at the summit... hence the name: North Pole of the Vogelsberg

The Geiselstein is, so to speak, the north pole of the Vogelsberg. The rocks of the 720 m high Geiselstein are special: they are magnetic. In close proximity to the rock, a compass needle can be deflected.Instead of the usual north direction, the needle points toward the summit. The rocks of the Geiselstein formed as liquid basaltic magma,
which reached the Earth's surface through a volcanic conduit. The north pole of the Vogelsberg is based on the mineralogical composition of the rock. The Geiselstein has a relatively high magnetite content, resulting in a weak,
but measurable magnetization that deflects the compass needle. The Geiselstein can be reached in just a few minutes via the circular trail marked with a green H from the Heide parking lot on the L 3291.geopark-vogelsberg.de/vulkanwissen/was-ist-ein-geotop/listenuebersicht/geotop-geiselstein.html
