The mechanical cotton spinning and weaving mill Kempten (also Rosenau) is a historic, listed industrial complex on the Iller in Kempten (Allgäu). At times, up to 2,000 people were employed at the factories at the same time.

The factory buildings were erected in 1852 on both sides of the river Iller and from 1882 onwards expanded again and again. These are elongated brick buildings connected by a historic bridge. In the time of the Second World War, armaments factories were relocated here and employed by forced laborers. From September 1943, a concentration camp satellite camp of the Dachau concentration camp was set up in the so-called shed roof hall. With about 100 inmates began to dismantle the textile machines and store in basements. The average occupancy of the satellite camp was 500 inmates. In April 1944, the satellite camp was moved to the nearby animal breeding hall. The production of accessories for fighter aircraft on behalf of the Helmuth Sachse KG (in which the BMW company was involved) ran until April 25, 1945. After the war, ethnic German deportees and collaborators from the countries occupied by the German Reich were temporarily quartered there. After the people found a new home again, the industrial plant was in such a dilapidated condition that the production of cotton yarn and fabric could not begin until 1949.
Due to changes in the textile industry, especially due to competition in Asia, the plant was no longer profitable. The production was terminated after gradual redundancies in 1991/92. [4] Since 2009/10, one investor has been responsible for the conversion of the four- and seven-story brick building into apartments. The city of Kempten applied in 2011 with the approx. 15,000 m² shed roof hall on the Keselstraße in the competition for the planned Museum of Bavarian History.

An important factor for this location for the production of cotton products was the hydropower. So they built there early for turbines for run-of-river power plants, in order to use the energy for the production. The current power plant Füssener Straße on the right bank of the river Iller was built in 1926 and renewed in 2011. The hydropower plant on the left bank of the river Iller, which was built in the 1950s, was replaced by a new power plant commissioned in 2010.
