On the Semberg near Schwerzen, some remains of ramparts and ditches can still be seen in the area. The castle plateau is around 20 x 25 meters in size and was probably primarily used for military purposes.
The hillfort was probably also inhabited by Celts after its early use.
The type of fortification suggests that it was last expanded in the late Carolingian-Ottonian period under the noble lords of Schwerzen, who were first mentioned in documents between 1090 and 1100.
