The stained glass windows of the church are a real highlight.

General information: The place was first mentioned in 1482 as a fishing village. In addition to fishing, the city's inhabitants also worked as river skippers to transport goods (mainly grain and wine) across the Ill to Strasbourg. In 1795 the site was assigned to the Haut-Rhin department, where it belonged to the canton of Riqewihr until 1802, then to the canton of Ribeauvillé. Over the years, other economic activities also provided livelihoods: shipbuilding and the extraction of sand and gravel from the Fecht and Ill, tobacco growing, basket weaving and livestock farming. In 1833 the place became independent as its own municipality.

From 1871 until the end of World War I, Illhäuser belonged to the German Empire as part of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Rappoltsweiler district in the Oberelsaß district.

Towards the end of the Second World War (December 1944 / January 1945), the place suffered mainly from the last battles for the Alsace bridgehead (pocket of Colmar). After extensive destruction, the place was liberated by Allied troops on January 25, 1945.
