Directly on the Franco-German border near Weiler (F) and St. Germanshof (D) there is a small memorial commemorating the 6th of August 1950, when around 300 young European federalists from France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark overtook French and German customs officers, destroyed turnpikes, tore down national emblems and raised the European flag, all for a "united and free Europe of security and peace".
