City Square Park is located on the site where Charlestown was founded in 1628 and where the first governor of Massachusetts lived. This remained an open space until the mid-20th century. But in the 1950s, several major roads converged here. From the 1970s, all major roads were relocated into tunnels under the site as part of the Central Artery North Area Project. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the square was completely redesigned.

City Square Park is a historic park along the Freedom Trail in Boston. Situated at the intersection of Main Street and Chelsea Street, this historic park was originally established in the 19th century, but has undergone several transformations over the years, evolving into the picturesque green space it is today. There is a historic water fountain in the middle of the park that is a popular spot to take photographs.
