It was not until 1801 that the estate on which the Harkensee manor house is located was founded. Compared to other estates in the region, with almost 210 years of history, it is still relatively young. The manor house itself, a brick building in the neoclassical style, was only built in 1830. Previously there was only a simple manor house with a few farm buildings. The von Plessen family had owned the Harkensee manor since 1820. She had numerous properties in the region. For financial reasons, the estate, like several others, had to be sold in the 17th century.

The last known owners to live in the Harkensee mansion were the Kersten family. It remained here until it was expropriated in 1945. Over the next few years, the building was used, among other things, as a residential building, a doctor's office and as the seat of the local council. In order to achieve this, major renovation work was carried out, which significantly changed the interior of the building in particular. In 2002, the city sold the Harkensee mansion. After extensive renovation, holiday apartments and a small hotel were opened here; You can also rent individual rooms and the wine cellar for private events. The building can be viewed from the outside at any time.
