Ancient forts can typically be difficult to distinguish from the ground level, but this one luckily can as the path here is just above the actual fort. This is another of the Iron Age Selgovae tribe's forts (the main one is at Castle O’er). It was probably an outpost from which they could watch what was going on in the valley, but we do not know for certain.

There are certainly fantastic views from up here over Eskdale.
