The Slootjesven and Meerlomeer fens are originally nutrient-poor fens, which are characteristic of heathlands on higher sandy soils. The Slootjesven dries up and the Meerlomeer disappears. As a result, the natural quality of both fens is significantly deteriorating. Quality can be restored by putting the hydrological system back in order and removing sludge.
