Barbara of Nicomedia (from Greek Βάρβαρα, "the stranger") is a popular Christian saint. According to tradition, she was a Christian virgin martyr of the 3rd century. She was therefore beheaded by her father Dioscurus because she refused to give up her Christian faith and her virginal devotion to God. According to tradition, these events are predominantly localized in Nicomedia (today İzmit) in Asia Minor and assigned to the reign of Emperor Maximian. But Heliopolis (today Baalbek in Lebanon), Tuscany and Rome also claimed to be the place of their martyrdom. There is no evidence of veneration of Barbara in late antiquity. In the late Middle Ages, however, the Barbara cult became very popular, especially in France.Source: de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_von_Nikomedien

A wooden statue of Saint Barbara was carved out of a trunk, right next to the Red Martyr. You can continue here in different directions. Two huts invite you to take a break.
