The chroniclers can be counted among the great sons. They researched the city's history and recorded it for future generations. The first was the theologian Friedrich Gottfried Elteste, who worked as an archive deacon in Zörbig. In addition to his spiritual duties, he devoted himself to historical research and wrote the "Detailed Message from the City of Zörbig, Leipzig 1727 1737".

The barber and surgeon Gottfried Daniel Wilhelm Frost left a handwritten chronicle of Zörbig (begun in 1813 and finished in 1849), the original of which was in the possession of Reinhold Schmidt.
Another chronicler was the theologian Friedrich Heinrich Ferdinand Rapmund, cantor and rector in Zörbig. He continued his work, which was based on Elteste, until 1849. It was printed by N. Norbert Walther in Zörbig.

In 1902 the "History and Description of the City of Zörbig" by Reinhold Schmidt (October 1, 1847 (in Ostrau) - October 1, 1906) was published.

He was the son of a priest and had suffered since his youth. Nevertheless, after obtaining his high school diploma, he studied economics and statistics. R. Schmidt worked for a short time as co-editor of the Hallischer Courier. As a private scholar, his father moved away from the family after his retirement. He published essays and incidents in the Zörbiger Boten and other magazines, collected valuable objects and gave them to the Halle Provincial Museum.

Reinhold Schmidt specified in his will that his assets should be donated to various charitable purposes. Part of this benefited the city of Zörbig. The writer served on the board of the Beautification Association. He erected a monument to him on the wall near his apartment (in the Dorotheenhof).
