Vester Vedsted Church dates back to around 1175, when it was founded on the dune in Vester Vedsted. It was originally a tufa church.

On the north side of the church, the tufa wall has been preserved from the base to the windows. The church had no tower until the 15th century. After a lightning strike in 1845, the tower burned down. However, the church was saved thanks to the resourceful efforts of the local population, which consisted of filling the door to the church with turf.
