The tower of the Isola Rossa, often mistakenly called the Aragonese Tower, was built between 1578 and 1595 to protect the territory from Saracen pirates. Subsequently, when the defensive needs no longer existed, the structure continued to be used to counter the clandestine trafficking that took place between Sardinia and nearby Corsica.
