The Geltinger Birk nature reserve is located on Geltinger Bay at the exit of the Flensburg Fjord. Until the 1980s, the area was used for agriculture and has been rewetted and left to nature over the past few decades.

Today, visitors are treated to a beautiful, diverse landscape with lakes, shorelines, salt and seagrass meadows, dunes, ancient forests, and marshes. The diversity of flora and fauna is immense.

There are various cycling and hiking trails through the area, all of which lead through magnificent scenery. Around every bend in the path, a new, magnificent view of a lake, the sea, or a landscape with peacefully grazing cattle and Koniks awaits. The area is an important refuge for waterfowl.

For us, the visit to the Birk was the absolute highlight of our vacation. We recommend not only cycling through the area, but also a hike.
