The first wooden church was built in Kirchdorf around 1260. It was consecrated in 1258 and Bishop Egno von Trento declared Kirchdorf a parish belonging to the Rott am Inn monastery. In the 15th century the church, with the exception of the tower, was destroyed by fire.[1]

The current church was built in 1470 by Hans Holnstainer, redesigned in 1697 with baroque furnishings and re-Gothicized in 1875, with the vault ribs being renewed. In 1927 the church was extended with galleries. The church is a hall building with six bays with a slightly recessed choir with a three-sided end and a west tower with a pointed helmet. The rib vaults are based on wall templates.
