A town hall from two times.
A tumultuous history of this building begins in the early 14th century with the construction of a Cloth Hall. The right part should have had a belfry tower, but unfortunately due to a lack of money it was never completed. The left part was built as the Palace of the Great Council. This wing was only finished in the 20th century according to 16th century plans.

Between 1311 and 1326 a belfry was added to the Mechein Cloth Hall (which was not completed). From 1526 to 1547, the Grand Council had the left wing of today's town hall built according to a design by Rombout II Keldermans. However, this was not completed until 1900/11. Since then, this complex has been a town hall.

Nice place in the center of Mechelen. If you also want to visit the town hall, check the opening hours!
