The chapel belongs to the parish of St. Peter in Bergen. It is not entirely clear when it was built. It was probably in the 16th or 17th century in a style that was already somewhat outdated at that time: Late Gothic. The stones used were coarse and of poor quality. Therefore, the chapel was painted white in 1935. The chapel has been restored several times, including in 1926, 1935, 1949, 1995, and 2006. The slate-covered turret dates from the early 19th century and contains a bell from 1648, cast by Johannes and Hendricus van Trier. The chapel is closely associated with the local St. Anthony's Riflemen's Guild. The Köpkesmarkt (a market for pigs) is a tradition dating back to the 17th century. Pig heads were auctioned and then offered for auction again. The proceeds were intended for the upkeep of the chapel, and the heads were eventually distributed to the poor, today to the sisters in Tegelen. A bronze statue of a pig's head by Clemens Driessen was placed at the chapel in 2002.
