The Arch of Constantine is the largest of the three surviving triumphal arches in Rome (about 25 metres high), and was erected in 315 to commemorate Constantine's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312. Built on the ancient road generally used by triumphs, in the section between the Circus Maximus and the Arch of Titus, it was built by partially reusing sculptures and architectural elements removed from older monuments, belonging to the periods of Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius.
