A church in Hochneukirch was first mentioned in the Liber valoris around 1308. Hochneukirch was a branch of the Holy Cross Parish of Keyenberg until the 14th century and then became an independent parish. In 1678 the upper floors of the bell tower burned down and in 1701 the nave collapsed. The tower was repaired in 1724. In the meantime, the nave was probably also restored, but by 1728 the nave was already dilapidated again.
In the 1860s it was decided to build a new church, which was built between 1869 and 1870 based on plans by the Cologne architect Heinrich Nagelschmidt in place of the old church. The laying of the foundation stone took place on June 29, 1869.
