The Strategic Railway embankment called a 1904 started, but not finished railway line. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the railways became increasingly involved in strategic considerations of the military and a whole series of new railway lines were planned and in part executed as strategic railways. The Strategic Railway Dam is one of them.
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategischer_BahndammThe Strategic Railway Dam is to be converted into a recreational area from 2019 (as of October 2018).
Excerpt RP-Online:
"The goal is to make this strategic railway embankment accessible," explains Town Hall spokesman Stephan Renner. So far, he is something of a "bumpy and difficult to use forest road", which extends to Grevenbroicher urban area significantly in the district of Neukirchen about 2.5 kilometers. "Above all, we want to turn the area into a recreational spot," Renner outlines the plans. As something like the green lung citizens should be able to enjoy the landscape there and get on walks and insights. Beyond that, "everyday connections" are to be established, ie cycle paths are created, which could then represent alternative connections between the cities.

It would even be a shame if the district / municipality converts it into a cyclist "Autobahn" as intended. Unfortunately, there is already planning in this direction. But at the moment it is still a beautiful, somewhat wild path, where you can even hear the nightingales in the hedges next to it. Almost jungle. You don't get that often. I hope the plans are somewhat milder.
